Dr. Barbara Coven earned her BA (magna cum laude) from Wesleyan University and her MD from Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric training at Boston City Hospital with a fellowship in psychosomatics at the Children’s Hospital of Boston. Loving travel, and wanting to serve the underserved, she practiced in American Samoa and Hawaii for eight years, returning east in 1992 for family and Yiddishkeit. She continues to practice pediatrics and adolescent medicine in Rye, New York with the West Med Medical Group.
She strives to be an advocate for the whole child within the context of the family: addressing their medical, developmental, educational, psychological, and social development. These skills proved most critical during the pandemic, which so challenged young children, teens, and families.
Dr. Coven has been consistently recognized for nearly 3 decades as a NEW YORK METRO Castle Connolly TOP DOCTOR as well as receiving recognition in Westchester and Fairfield County Top Doctor listings. She is active in the Greenwich Jewish community where she resides. She recently discovered and is now deeply immersed in the vibrant, diverse, inclusive Jewish community of the Carlebach Shul and the UWS. Dr. Barbara is blessed with two adult daughters (Lorraine, a social justice lawyer, and Hannah, an upper west sider and budding psychologist) as well as her “bonus” loving stepfamily, who have helped her to appreciate the joys of a Torah lifestyle.
