Yom HaShoah Commemoration at The Carlebach Shul “Assisi Underground” - Sunday, April 27th at 3:00 PM Come to the Carlebach Shul to see and hear the amazing story of “The Assisi Underground.” Learn about the efforts of Padre Rufino Niccacci and other residents of Assisi to shelter and protect three hundred Jews and to provide others with false papers, all under the noses of the Nazi occupiers. An exhibit from ‘The Museum of Memory,” in Assisi Italy, the visuals and the recorded testimonials bring to life the unity and togetherness that the Jews fleeing the Nazis developed with their Catholic Rescuers during the perilous Nazi Occupation of Italy in 1943/1944. Program Chaired by Professor Karen Sutton, PhD, with guest speakers The Carlebach Shul is also participating in the Yom Hashoah Reading of the Names organized by the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, which will take place beginning on Wednesday Night, April 23rd, at West Side Institutional Synagogue.
